Vermont Allstar Network is a two part idea...
1) Vermont Allstar Network is a collaboration of ideas, thoughts and concerns between MIke AA1PR Steve (ex KC1EGU) about Allstar activity in Vermont.
These discussions included ideas on how to improve our coverage areas, what equipment to use, lack of useful information available on the web as a premise. Along with a desire to create an open system where are all welcome.
Our basic idea is to create a linked Allstar connection where amateurs in Vermont can communicate all over the world from let us say Middlebury to Wallingford with a seamless transition. Where club affiliations & politics are removed, no one is superior, where we are all equal. We don't need linked repeaters up and down the state to achieve what can be done by simplex. When the brown stuff hits the fan and the repeaters go down we'll all be communicating by simplex anyways, so let us practice those lost skills of communicating by simplex. All of the Vermont nodes are perfect for any one hiking the AT/LT across VT with a 5 watt handitalkie
As you will learn we are somewhat of a ragchew group, our discussions are lengthy at times with varying topics that keep things lively. With allstar you may notice slight variations in audio quality, this is the norm and is accepted as such. Tolerance is what makes this system so enjoyable, with connections via echolink ans Zoiper.
Hubs 42353 & 42354, are " AN OPEN SYSTEM AND ALL ARE WELCOME". 42353 & 42354 are a great place to hang out, chat as long as you like and make new friends in the process.
The Vermont Allstar Hub WW1VT node 42353 is our main connection point where all stations have one common access point. Stations whether they be simplex nodes or repeaters can join & leave from this hub as desired. This is our social hub for all of our simplex nodes and this is an open system. However we must forewarn you, as you will discover many long winded QSO's here hihi. If long QSO's arent allowed on your system then this sadly might not be the connection point for you; either way, at least stop in and say hello for a while. We hope this inspires you to build your own node & join the system for those ever sought after lengthy QSO's.
The Vermont Allstar Hub WW1VT node 42354 is our technologies hub. This allows folks that dont have access via a radio link to still join the system. This hubs web transceiver capability in not currently enabled [see below], in its place we have created a Zoiper access in the meantime, that really works well ! Please PM or email vermontallstar@gmail.com for access info. Access codes are subject to change over time for security reasons.
Vermont Allstar Nodes that are currently accessible via echolink: AA1PR-L, N1ARN & W1TAL-L (KC2IRV Part time when connected)
When transmitting into the system give a 4 second pause before speaking (transmitting) to allow all connected nodes time to activate and a 4 second pause after the other person who has transmitted time to reset. As we like to say, "if it feels awkwardly long than you are doing it correctly". There is a 3 minute time out timer on the system. Please program all radio time out timers to 3 minutes.
Please check with Admin before linking into the system. We'd love to have you on board. Stay as long, or as often as you like. All are welcome!
2) Our second thought was to create this forum where others could easily find information about allstar that wasnt readily available, in a more condensed location. It seems most information about allstar is secret, those that know - don't want to share with those that don't. Too many holes in the swiss cheese of allstar knowledge out there. So let's fill those gaps together.
Our forum here is loaded with a wealth of information that we have learned over the course of an year. Please join the forum to gain access. Our idea is instead of everyone grabbing info from the snack bowl & walking away, we want your participation in return like sharing in discussion at the dinner table. This is an online community resource and as such participation is part of that equation.
After a year of keeping the forum publicly visible and very little participation from others, we have mixed things up by now requiring one to register and login in to access the forum.
There is no solicitation, however we do send out a monthly update report by email.
